Get a Library Card
Online
You must have an SMRLD Library Card to use our online library of e-books, e-audiobooks, e-comics, e-magazines, streaming movies, streaming music, and databases.
Use our online card registration form to get your card.
Visit card.smrld.org and complete the form; be sure to include your email address and/or phone number so that we can provide you with your new library card number.
Please allow 48 hours for your card number to be assigned to you.
Online Library card numbers are suspended after 90 days. Please visit the Library to keep your Library Card active and to receive your physical card.
Bring your photo ID showing your current address to the Library at 2001 Delmar Avenue. If your photo ID does not
have your current address, please bring both your ID and one of the following with your current address:
Checkbook, with the address imprinted
Voter’s registration card
Utility bill dated within the last two months
Mail from a government agency dated within the last two months
Pay stub dated within the last two months
Once a physical Library card is in hand, the cardholder has access to all online resources as well as all physical materials available through SMRLD, including access to more than 10
million items from 344 libraries in Southern Illinois.
In-person
It’s easy to get a library card!
All you need is a photo ID with your current Granite City, Mitchell, Pontoon Beach, or Arlington address (ex. driver’s license, State of Illinois ID card, Granite City Park District ID).
If your photo ID does not have your current address, please bring both your ID and one of the following, with your current address:
- checkbook, with the address imprinted
- voter’s registration card
- utility bill dated within the last two months
- mail from a government agency dated within the last two months
- pay stub dated within the last two months
Youth 17 and under may get a card at any age. A parent or legal guardian of the child must show their current library card or the identification described above. The parent or guardian must be in the library with the child when registering for the library card.
Notice to Non-Residents
Because the library is financially supported by the taxes paid by residents of the Six Mile Regional Library District, it is necessary to charge persons living outside the library district a fee for a library card. An annual non-resident card may be purchased for $149.00 and used by the entire household.
